{I'm just going to make up a description of the academy}
Water flowed among the sodden moor, melting the sudden snowfall into a slushy, slippery surface. Small, frozen brown grasses were all that dared to brave the chilling weather, creating small ripples when a stalk delicately touched the myriad of puddles. Deceptively calm, one wrong step and a small animal could be plunged into the icy flow. Above, the heavens were displaying the typical grayish-white skies that were all too common in Aang's Valley of late, dawn being little more then a wisp away. No sane creature would be out on a day like this...
Among the sodden grasses, the orange-yellow cloths stood out like a beacon, as a teenaged airbender sat crosslegged amid the grasses.
Lissa absently twirled a spiral of wind between her fingers, wrapping the breezes about her like a thread of silk. She hesitantly continued the motion, gray-green eyes hazed over as she remembered the previous hour's activities. Temple school, the bane of her existence.
Kiyoshi warriors were, graceful, powerful and honorable, everything Lissa desired to be. If it hadn't been for her airbending she'd never have left the island community. At first, the temple welcomed her with open arms, airbenders were still scarce after all. As the years went by most began to see her as a nusiance, a dragon-fly in the ointment. She had grown up with the budding skills of a Kiyoshi Warrior, expecting to live her life as a warrior of the Island. Her mannerisms, attitude, and green eyes all spoke of a stranger, regardless of her bending abilities. Outsider, Unnatural, these words floated to her ears on the winds. Even after 4 years in the temples, she was still considered peculiar. It would probably be easier to give in, join the flow, like Air was supposed to. But something within her rebelled at the notion of being nothing but a peaceful, vegetarian monk in this all girls Temple.
At times the utter lack of opinions at the temple became unbearable to her. No doubt her classmates were already engaged in the next airbender trick. "Peaceful, calm, work around the obstacle not through them.", she angrily muttered under her breath. The elders at the temple looked down on competition and achievement, meaning even though she had passed the classes at her level, Lissa was stuck in the same lessons as peers her age. Well, if she was unable to challenge her skills and intelect, she might as well entertain herself. It became a game for her, finish a scroll, leave one blank, then watch the faces of those around her. Half of the time she skipped lessons, like she had decided to do so today.
