Name-Lissa
Age-17
Nation of Origin-Kiyoshi Island
Gender-Girl
Bender-Air
Appearance-She has dark brown hair, usually in a pony-tail, out of the way.
With the pale skin of the airbenders and the eyes of an earth kingdom native, it's no wonder she remained on Kiyoshi for most of her childhood.
Lissa is a singer, with perfect pitch and a tone that pierces. With a rounded timbre, amazing breath control and projective abilities, she is talented in the art of the voice. Unfortunately she lacks the skills to read music. Memorizing pieces isn't difficult for her and she usually has a song in her head.
Personality-She is the type who desires competition. Whether self-imposed or organized by others, Lissa enjoys the immense satisfaction in completion of a task or game. Often she creates simple puzzles or challenges to keep her occupied, such as stepping only on shadows or blinking each time a particular car approaches her sight. Possessing a restless energy within, she has attempted different outlets to release the tension. Hunting, trapping, skating, running, and air scooter are usually added to her day. The exhilaration of battling her previous scores can often leave her upbeat for weeks.
Lissa isn't lacking friends and can be likable if she so chooses, what she desires however is a rival. To her, a combatant on equal standing with her would be a blessing, allowing her to finally push herself to her limits, both physically and mentally. Her desire for a conflict of any sort to overcome has occasionally led her to sow dissent and strife in a group. This quickly became counter-productive to her goal, for instead of causing issues, she took over the whole student population as a leader instead. With her crafty wiles and razor wit not a single person dared to defy her, leaving her again without a trial. As she continued to lack contenders, for the moment she simply argued with herself.Eventually, she left the close-knit group to find a new challenge.
Lissa isn't able to see anyone as her equal. Either her standards are too high or she is blinded by her utter pride. If she is offered a helping hand, most likely she will brush it off, determined to solve a problem by herself. In her own way, she's antisocial around those she hasn't placed in her trust. Naturally, she is suspicious of everyone. The best way to get on her bad side is to pry into her business, as she prefers to keep her past at least partially hidden.
As some would notice, Lissa is stubborn, both in her attitude and persistance. She refuses to take no for an answer and will attempt to circumvent a problem with any possible means. This includes following ideas that possibly are illegal in nature. At most, she relies on her own personal system of honor.
Lissa is a deeply suspicious individual, unable to accept something at face value. Possessing an inborn streak of distrust, she is rarely caught off guard. She decides how to react on her own terms. It's a prime sign of favor if she allows another to break her calm. For her it's a conscious choice as to what she wants to be. In such a manner she can project confidence, whether real or not.
Lissa upholds a strict code of Dignity Above All Else. Her value isn't a product of beautification but a sense of reputation and integrity
Lissa is a worrier, and yet thrives on disruptions. With almost gleeful joy she can find a way to turn any situation into a disaster. She is prone to feelings of destruction, desiring to tear a flower petal rather than leave the plants alone. There is something splendid in the rending of objects. As such, she hates order and boredom with a passion.
Lissa may be intelligent, but she is severely lacking in specific areas. Unable to truly trust anyone, alive or dead, she is constantly second-guessing everyone around her. The best way to keep her dignity intact is to be aloof. She has studied the actions of others for far too long and knows too much about the darkness of the soul. It's incredibly easy to betray your allies when aspects of ethics are involved. She used to treat all others to the same courtesy and respect, or at least until IT happened.
One way she displays her belief is she refuses to swear at those who annoy her, as she finds the words loathsome and crude. Instead of being an outlet for anger, she finds her words have more impact if she avoids cursing. Words are tools of power and shouldn't be tossed around lightly.
Lissa is sadly deficient when it comes empathy. She is unable to imagine a situation from someone else's perspective. Looking out for number one is her top priority, though with practice she has realized the easiest way to survive is treat everyone equally. With her lack of understanding, it's frighteningly possible, even simple, for her to dramatically injure others, mentally or physically. The issue is she has all the abilities to make everyone's life a misery, without the judgement to prevent it. She remains extremely careful about her word choice and attitude, or so she believes.
What she worries about the most is her volatile temper. While some burn hot, she blazes with an icy fury. Able to continue thinking when in a fit of rage, she uses her calculating greed to an advantage, becoming a force to be reckoned with. Get on her bad side and you may not escape with your life intact. She has a habit of holding grudges for years. Determined to get even, she is utterly persistant in the pursuit of those she considers wrong.
Lissa has a skewed sense in understanding the pain of others. She may worry endlessly over the littlest things about herself, yet she may feel completely at ease when everyone else is suffering from anguish or confusion. She's simply unable to take the perspective of someone else and taking it into account of her decision making process. Another way of putting it is she is utterly selfish on the inside. This is something she is aware of, which is why she tries to be kind to fellow companions when she can. By mimicking those around her, she has learned what is decent or not, even if she doesn't really understand the social norms.
A loner by nature Lissa prefers to reside in solitude, unless circumstances prove otherwise. She finds contentment in the sheer magnificence of the wilds. Occasionally she has entertained the idea of living alone in the woods, however, the lack of new scrolls has made it a less then ideal option.
Lissa has been struggling with a darker side of herself. On one hand, she prefers to save the weak and helpless, the other side of her wants to watch them struggle in vain. She knows there is a finite amount of resources and part of her wonders if simply running away would be easier then dealing with people. To her, people are irritating, nosy, whiny, creatures, certainly not the crowning achievement of the spirits, or at least, that's her excuse. Deep inside she knows the desire to break things, just to see what happens, like tearing apart a flower, noticing as it withers and dies.

Special Abilities-Instead of the usual avoid, dodge, turn the opponents strength against them style of the Air Nomads, Lissa aggressively utilizes the another aspect of wind, the ability to cut.
Soundbending, the ability to amplify noise, is another she possesses.
Her body temperature is warmer than normal, allowing her to fly at higher altitudes.
Lissa, having been taught by Kiyoshi warriors from the age of 2, was trained to use a Katana and Naginata. Weapons being forbidden at the Air Temples, she has been forced to all but abandon her blade skills. Air swords however, were a different matter. By creating a handle out of the materials at hand, Lissa was able to keep pracicing without real blades. Naginatas could be concocted as a combination of air-blade and staff, but she still misses her old weapons.
Oddly enough, most Sky Bison are afraid of her, or at least wary in her presence. Animals usually find her intimidating. When the time came for an animal companion to pick a monk friend, she alone was without a partner. Later on in her travels, she befriended a wild pygmy-pyma.
History-Lissa was brought to Kiyoshi lands between the ages of 1-2 after a pirate raid. Her true parentage is unknown. With her mostly Earth Kingdom coloring, Lissa was thought as a non-bender for 8 years. At the time, airbenders were still rare in comparision to other types. Lissa was taught with the aim of becoming a Kiyoshi Warrior, until her abilities manifested that is. Once her bending was discovered, the warriors had no choice but to send her to a temple. As a result of her upbringing, she lacked the pasificm of the nomads, not to mention she was naturally headstrong in nature.
Templework, wasn't particularly exciting, she merely had to show up for class, memorize some facts, do a fancy trick and finish her studies. For her own amusement she occasionally turned in a blank paper, just to watch the shocked expression on an instructor's features. There was something satisfactory in disrupting the expectations of those around her. As initiation drew nearer she became disillusioned with the emphasis put on grades. In the end, high or low, her score barely mattered. She would still be working the same boring temple chores as the rest of her classmates.
This portrayal of the future is what had driven her to find an outlet. Eventually, she found not a kinder world, but a far more interesting story to explore, the past. History, with all the drama, action and intense scenarios, present times paled in comparison. In particular, she enjoyed the reading about the Avatars and wars of the past. These were the times where someone could test their mettle and make a difference, a time in which there was a reason to be alive.
Driven by her innate desire for change, Lissa eventually left the temple at the age of 15 to seek out her fortune elsewhere. There is only so much wisdom a person can take after all. She stole away in the dead on night, with a sachel and glider in tow. The temple had never felt like home to her after all.
Living as a nomad without temple protection, she discovered, is difficult. As a lone teenager on the road, she would be an easy target for thieves. thankfully, she had continued her Kiyoshi training and improved her abilities. Finding work, however was another story. Bounty hunting, with the freedom and mobility she desired, became a side income for her.
