The normally happy Kota sat with a rather sour look on his face, looking out at the ocean. He had only recently returned from visiting the priests. The ivory-haired boy wouldn't stay like that for long, a fellow warrior slapping him upside the head, "Sorry, sir!" Kota quickly jumped up to his feet. He was supposed to be keeping guard, after all.
He and the other soldier watched from high up in the guard tower, on the look out for any threats to the Southern Water Tribe...though there hadn't been any in years, so it was mostly just something to keep the low-rank and injured warriors busy. Occasionally, Kota could let his mind wander, and his eyes gaze upon the frozen land below them.
If he looked back over his shoulder, his blue eyes could see the industrialized towns behind him. What was once a small village that survived on hunting a fishing during Avatar Aang's day, with only a few warriors as their only defense, now had large metal buildings, that produced weapons and boats, among other things. Kota didn't care for going near them. They smelled strange, and some of them turned the snow black. They even blocked his view of the larger glaciers. Oh, well. He wasn't supposed to be looking at them, anyway. The waterbending warrior had to keep his eyes on the ocean in front of him.

~Kasai~
It had been quite awhile since the short waterbender had been home. His thoughts idled on his parents, he was curious as to how they were doing. Realizing how far his thoughts were letting him slip, he shook his head and gazed out over the chilled wasteland in front of him. From the deck of the small ship he sailed on, he could see the guard towers. At the same time he noticed them at first, so did the man in the crows nest above him. A happy cry of "land!" escaped from the mans mouth, and the crew around Kasai let out a cheer.
Kasai smiled. The men around him were a ragtag bunch, and he had been sailing with them for a few days. But they were good men of the Southern Water Tribe, just as he was, and they were just as excited as he to be home. He let out a whoop of his own, unable to contain it. What could he say? The crew's attitude was infectious. The ship seemed to speed up as they approached, as if it, too, was happy to be at port.
They tied into the dock, and in one giant mass the men on board walked down the ramp onto dry ground. It felt a little odd under Kasai's feet, he had grown his sea-legs on the trip, and now he needed to regain his land ones. Still, hard to walk or not, he was happy. Truley happy. He would see his parents again, after a few years. When he made these trips, it was like being one happy family again. If only his brother was there as well, but Kasai knew that the chance of that was slim.
He glanced up at the guard towers, and he thought he could make out a shape or two up there, watching them. He smiled lightly, even though those up there wouldn't see it. It was nice to know his home was watched carefully.

The ship could be seen from the guard towers long before it reached the docks, and it was plain to see that it was a Water Tribe ship. Kota saw them coming in every day, so it wasn't until the vessel came much closer that this ship was a special occasion.
The feminine figure on deck, looking as though they were in charge of the crew, was an unusual sight. Therefore, Kota managed guess who the figure was. "Hey, Kasai's back!" Kota exclaimed to his fellow warrior.
Being five years younger than the short waterbender, Kota mainly knew Kasai through gossip within the tribe, and a little through waterbending lessons when they were younger. They encountered each other every once in awhile, and when they did, Kota would bother the traveler to tell him about all the places he had been to in the world. The white-haired warrior usually did so with many of the tribe's children in tow, who all requested the same of Kasai.
The soldier beside Kota sighed, and waved him off. The waterbender's face brightened with a grin as he rushed down the stairs to greet his fellow tribesmen. Once he was out the door, Kota swung his arms in a circular motion, bringing up some snow into his hands in the shape of a ball. He tossed it, rolling it against the ground.
With the help of Kota's bending, it picked up enough snow to grow to the size of a small desk. The ivory-haired bender proudly jumped up on top of his creation, before calling out to the crew, "Welcome back!"

Kasai blinked in surprise at the sudden shout. He glanced up, breaking out of his stupor, to see someone he rarely saw, but recognized immediatly. Among chorus' of "Thank yous!" Kasai grinned. The other boy could be a wee bit annoying when Kasai first got back. He was always the first to ask questions, usually bringing a group of children along with him. However, he was an excellent waterbender, and a tribesman, and a good guy. Kasai held no ill feelings towards his fellow waterbender.
"Thanks, Kota!" He replied, waving at the waterbender. "Its good to see you. Now come down here; you're making me feel short; and tell me how you've been, and I'll tell you about my journey. I know you must be dying to hear of it." He chuckled. He wasn't being egotistical, he was just being honest. He knew that Kota loved the stories of his journeys. And he could understand why.

"So you've figured out how this works. Great, that saves time!" In an instant, Kota's excitement faded into a bit of melancholy as he slouched down on top of the snowball, sinking down into it. The snow contoured to his body, forming a chair that was low to the ground. "But I'm not doing so good. I think I made the Chieftain and the Priests mad...Oh!" Kota snapped up to his feet, the snow-chair collapsing, "You probably want to head into town before talking about it, huh?"

Kasai chuckled as Kota sunk to the ground, and then almost immediatly got back to his feet. "How about we talk as we head into town?" He said, before starting off. He didn't know if Kota was following or not, but he figured he would be, since it had been his idea to go into town anyways. "What did you do to make them mad, anyways? It seems like you always have your own stories." He commented, glancing back at the other waterbender. Waiting for an answer, he turned back to examine the town looming up in front of him.
He took a deep breath, breathing in the oddly comforting scents of industry and elbow grease. But there was a more pure smell among that as well, the smell of water, salt, and snow. Some people might have thought the idea of snow having a smell was odd, but to Kasai it was perfectly normal. Feeling oddly happy, he reached out with his arms and create a tower of snow in front of him. Completly unbothered, he walked through the tower, and walked on as a figure surronded by snow for a minute before he let it fall away. He chuckled.

OOC: Yea, of course. And sorry for being gone for awhile.
IC: Kota followed behind his fellow bender. "Oh, that..." He was hesitant to answer the other's question. It wasn't until after Kasai had his fun in the snow that he gave a response.
"Well...You think I'm good at waterbending, right? I think I'm really good, and so do a lot of the other guys in the tribe. So, I thought that maybe, I could've been the Avatar." His gaze drifted downward toward the snow, "It turns out that they tested some of us when we were kids. They said I wasn't the one. I said it wasn't fair, and I kind, sorta...yelled at them. And then I stormed off."
Kota sighed as he lifted a gloved hand, rubbing the back of his neck. "Guess that was stupid of me, huh?"

A slim tall shape landed it's feet on the fluffy snow. The ship had just docked moments ago, only to let off passengers. A large grin was pasted on the figures face. Mercy, a rather tall girl, gazed at the place before her. She had come from the Northern Water Tribe, her home. Her eagerness to explore brought her to her sister tribe, ones just like she. A small laugh exited from her lips as her feet carried her through the entrance. Her emerald eyes gazed around as her head twisted and turned to look at the sites. It looked almost exactly like her home, only a little bit different. Mercy then smiled as she came upon a small ramp that led up to the snow walls that surrounded the area. They were much smaller then the ones up north but it was worth a try to make her way up. She trotted over to the edge of the structure, her heart pouding with excitement. She then seated herself on the white substance and watched over the city.
